The following screens have images and/or text references that may be unsuitable for some students, depending on their level of maturity. We recommend that the teacher review this material before assigning to students.

("Women's Art and Initiation in Mendeland") Screens 5,6,21 & 24 discuss the coming of age of young women among the Mende people of Sierra Leone, including some partial nudity (bare breasts). Screen 4 makes references to "female circumcision" or "excision".Field Research Essay: Arthur Bourgeois.

Screen 1 of the section on "Birth" discusses the uterus, caul, and other aspects of parturition. Screen 2 of the section called "Childhood" speaks about circumcision, and screen 8 mentions sexuality, circumcision, and the foreskin. There is a 4-screen section about "Circumcision."
