About Art and Life in Africa Online |
In developing the Art and Life in Africa program as a resource
for education, the goal is to reach as many people as possible with some
form of the program. Today, one of the best ways to accomplish this is through
the use of the Internet. The World Wide Web, which is now one of the two
most heavily used Internet resources, is an excellent means of distributing
educational materials. We have therefore established this web presence to
meet the needs of educators and students everywhere.
Currently, the Art and Life in Africa Online web
pages serve as an introduction and guide to the related CD-ROM project in general, as well
as providing online resources such as the online searchable Catalogue
of the Stanley Collection of Africa Art at the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA), along with information on 106 Peoples and 27 African countries profiled in the ALA CD-ROM (this information is also available on the CD). The Online site also contains a version of chapter
Key Moments
in Life from the CD, which contains an overview of Art and Life in Africa. We will be continually updating and adding to the resources
on this site as they become available. Please note that while the CD-ROM contains images from 10 museums other than the UIMA, the Online site only uses images from the UIMA, plus field photos from participating African art scholars.
In addition to the materials related to the CD-ROM, we also have placed online the complete version of the Art and Life in Africa Teacher's Guide, designed to help teachers in the K-12 classroom integrate the ALA CD-ROM into their curricula. The Teacher's Guide and other resources for teachers can be found in the Teacher's Forum area of the ALA website.
