Background:
Jerry Wever is a socio-cultural Ph. D. candidate specializing in ethnomusicology and expressive culture, is a member of the Caribbean, Diasporas and Atlantic Studies program, and is a Crossing Borders fellow. He is finishing his dissertation entitled Postcolonial Creolizations: Expressive culture and power in St. Lucia and Seychelles. It comparatively analyzes how social actors shape complex processes of cultural recuperation in the postcolonial era. A major case study in St. Lucia is on the creolization of U.S. Country & Western. He obtained his M.A. at U. of Iowa with a thesis entitled: Creolization and the Role of the Festival Jounen Kwéyòl (Creole Day) in the Recasting of St. Lucian Identity.
