Saturday Art Workshops

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Saturday Art Workshops!

We hope the experiences we have planned for our students will be involving and memorable.

Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 11:00 a.m. The building will open at 9:15 a.m. Children under 14 will remain in the studio until their parents arrive to pick them up, unless other arrangements are made. There is a $65.00 fee per student, payable at registration.

Many of the activities planned are unavoidably messy. We ask that students wear old clothes, or bring an old shirt or smock: we'll be happy to store it in the studio. Also, we ask that you please contact us if your child will be absent on a particular Saturday.

Occasionally, classes may be involved in field trips within walking distance of North Hall. We ask that parents indicate their willingness to allow their children to participate in such activities by signing the permission form available at the registration desk.

Classes will meet on Saturdays. Our final session will include a reception and exhibit of children's work. We hope parents will join us then.

You may park for free in the adjacent North Ramp Parking Lot when dropping off and picking up students. Simply tell the parking attendant you are with the Saturday Art Workshops.

Methods: Art is the university course through which the Saturday Art Workshops are planned and conducted. University students who are preparing to become art teachers, while they are teaching in the Saturday Art Workshops, are necessarily asked to reflect upon their teaching concretely in guided writing. This weekly writing is culminated in a final documentation of their teaching which incorporates photographs. As well, you may observe that photographs of children producing their art work are often displayed for the children. More often than not, photographs of the art itself are taken. If you have any questions or desire that photographs not be taken of your child (this is completely fine and your children will not be meant to feel excluded), or if you wish to make copies of photographs your child's teacher may have taken, please contact me.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns during the semester.
