Adult Band Information
Adults ages 21 and older
Enjoy the hospitality of the state famous for music
luminaries Meredith Willson (The Music Man) and
Karl L. King! Come join New Horizons Band members from around the country in Iowa City, Iowa, the
“Athens of the Midwest.”
The University
of Iowa’s Summer Music Camp (ISMC) includes an Adult Band, led by Don Coffman,
Iowa City New Horizons Band founder/director and UI Professor of Music
Education.
New Horizons Band members who are “veterans” of other
NHB institutes will want to know that this camp offers a full week of
rehearsals and the opportunity to choose from numerous classes. Band
literature will be chosen to reflect the ability level of those who attend
the camp. All rehearsals and classes will be held in Voxman Music
Building on the beautiful University of Iowa campus. Tuition cost is only $140 for the week ($130 for members of New Horizons International Music Association. (To join, visit http://www.newhorizonsmusic.org).

Daily Schedule
Two full band rehearsals daily. There are also masterclasses,
chamber ensembles, and classes in music history, theory, conducting, organ,
piano, double reed making and more!
Arrival and Departure
Plan to arrive at Voxman Music
Building on Sunday, June 8. A picnic will be provided in nearby City Park at 5 PM. Registration is from 4:30-6:30PM in the lobby of Clapp Recital Hall. Plan to stay at least through our concert at 2:00PM Saturday, June 14.
Travel
Major airlines have connecting flights to the Cedar Rapids/Eastern Iowa
International airport, which is 25 miles north of Iowa City. Rental cars are available at the
airport. Two shuttle services Airport Express (800-383-2219) and Airport
Shuttle Service (800-725-8640) operate between the airport and Iowa. Iowa
City is located on Interstate 80 (50 miles west of the Quad
Cities, 120 miles east of Des Moines).

The Amana Colonies are a
National Historic Landmark tucked in the rolling hills of eastern Iowa, about 15 miles west of Iowa City, and consist of seven quaint

Known as "The Quilt Capitol of Iowa," the charming country town
of Kalona is a quilt all its own - a
myriad of uniques patterns both old and new. It's
an antique collector's heaven of shops. Visit the Historical Village
and Museum, the grocery store and the cheese factory.
The Herbert Hoover Presidential
Library, located in West Branch (about 10 miles east of Iowa City) has an outstanding permanent

The University of Iowa is home to 3
museums. The Museum of Natural
History is the oldest university museum west of the Mississippi
River and the second oldest museum of any kind in the West. The Art Museum’s collection includes
pieces by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Pollock, as well as one of the world's
largest collections of African art. The UI’s University
Hospital is the largest teaching
hospital in the U.S.
and has its own museum.
City Park,
just north of Voxman Music
Building, has a large
public pool, should you have the urge a swim. Or you may simply want to
stroll along the beautiful Iowa River.
