ABOUT THE BIJOU THEATER

THE BIJOU THEATER is a non-profit, student-run cinema screening independent, art house, foreign, and classic cinema. Established in 1972, the Bijou Theater has built a reputation as one of the preeminent student-run theaters in the nation. The theater screens a variety of new releases and classic films, with year-round screenings, seven days a week, except during University holidays and recesses.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The Bijou Theater is a commission of the University of Iowa Student Government (UISG). The theater is run by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors, under the leadership of the Executive Director and Programming Director. See Get Involved for more information on the Board of Directors.

The Bijou's annual operating budget is partially funded by a portion of the student activity funds allocated through UISG. The Bijou does not receive money in its operating budget for programming expenses; film rental costs must be covered through ticket sales.
