Job Description

The Center for Diversity and Enrichment (CDE) brings together under one umbrella a variety of programs, offices and services that work to create a welcoming climate for students, staff and faculty from communities underrepresented in higher education.

A merger of Support Service Programs and Opportunity at Iowa, the CDE provides leadership and coordination for outreach and service to underserved students from diverse backgrounds, including students of color, first-generation students whose parents have not received a baccalaureate degree and students from low-income families.

CDE offers:

  • community building
  • tutoring
  • individualized guidance
  • summer programs
  • academic skill development
  • connections to UI and community resources
  • pre-college student development and recruitment

CENTER – a place of concentrated activity, influence or importance: focus, headquarters, heart, to concentrate, to draw together

DIVERSITY – inclusive representation of the variety of people served, programs offered and an easily recognizable term

ENRICHMENT – the act of making fuller, or more meaningful or rewarding
