I teach graduate courses in Communication Theory,
Family Communication, and Dialogism. I teach undergraduate courses
about communication in personal relationships, family communication,
and research methods. With respect to research, I have published
about 100 refereed research articles, book chapters, and books on
various aspects of communication in families and in personal relationships.
I am continuing to develop relational dialectics theory, a theory
grounded in the works of Russian social theorist Mikhail Bakhtin,
about the multivocal complexities that animate interpersonal communication
in a variety of familial and nonfamilial relationships. I have a secondary
appointment as a professor in the Community & Behavioral Health
Department in the College of Public Health.
