At a Glance

The 2008 NACCDO/PAN conference, May 3-6 in Iowa City, offers plenary events and separate tracks for cancer center development, public affairs, and marketing professionals. A centrally located exhibitors' area will provide opportunities to meet with leading companies that provide services and expertise to cancer centers nationwide.

Overview

On Saturday, May 3, conference registration and check-in begins at noon, and a welcome reception with exhibitors takes place at 4 p.m. on the patio at the Coralville Marriott. Conference sessions are held throughout at the hotel on Sunday and Monday and continue through Tuesday morning. The conference adjourns after morning sessions on Tuesday, May 6.

Saturday, May 3

Theater and dining
Join your colleagues at your choice of restaurants and an evening at the theater. Following the welcome reception, buses will be available to take you to the theater district in downtown Iowa City. Choose from a number of restaurants including vegetarian, elegant dining and a diner highlighted on the West Wing for its coffee bean caucus. Before or after dinner (your choice), select one of two showings of a funny, touching play that explores the thoughts and feelings of men in the lives of women with breast cancer. Playwright and Iowa City resident, Ron Clark, is a member of the group Men Against Breast Cancer. Visit their site at: http://www.menagainstbreastcancer.org/. Downtown Iowa City is also home to many quaint shops including Prairie Lights Books Prairie Lights a three-story independently owned book store and home to public radio’s “Live from Prairie Lights”; the Java House, a locally-owned coffee shop with live music; the Pentacrest, Iowa’s first capital and base of buildings that make up The University of Iowa, and more.

Sunday, May 4

Tour of Radiation Oncology and dinner at Kinnick Stadium
After a day of sessions, tour Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center’s new radiation oncology center. Full of art, completely paperless, and patient-friendly features, the Center offers novel treatments such as 4D radiation therapy. Then, walk across the street for dinner in the Kinnick Stadium press box. Kinnick Stadium has been the home of the Iowa Hawkeyes for more than 75 years. When filled to capacity, which has happened during home football games for 24 straight years, the stadium is the fifth largest city in Iowa.

Monday

Wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres
On Monday, enjoy premium wines and hors d' oeuvres served at the Levitt Center for University Advancement where the University of Iowa Foundation is housed. Listen to live music and enjoy a stroll along the Iowa River where you will be close to Hancher Auditorium and the Iowa Museum of Art.

Conference Venue
The 2008 NACCDO/PAN conference will be held at the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.

Located along the Iowa River, the hotel is the first smoke-free Marriott in the country. The facility offers art by Iowan artists and a library of books written by teachers or graduates of the famed Iowa Writer’s Workshop. The books are available for check out by hotel guests. The hotel is also completely wireless. The hotel is near the Iowa Antique Car Museum with more than 65 cars ranging from the 1890s to the 1990s.
