Despite my Iowa address, I remain a transplanted New Yorker. I received my master's degree from SUNY Stony Brook with a focus in Composition Theory.  Currently, though I am most interested in the early national period and how works of that time constructed multiple versions of a national identity. Added to that literary interest, I am particularly captivated by prescriptive and conduct literatures of the period, specifically cookery and household manuals and the narratives which are embedded within the ingredients, instructions, and not to mention prefaces and frontispieces. I have taught both Interpretation of Literature and Women and Literature, as well as many composition classes back east. I am also a Graduate Merit Fellow.
