I received my B.A. in English from Dartmouth College (1994), M.A. in English from the University of Chicago (1996), and spent a year studying at Trinity College in Dublin (1996-7) before coming to Iowa in 1998. I started the program at Iowa "knowing" I wanted to study either James Joyce or witchcraft. Somehow, through the bizarre alchemy of my sundry interests and Catholic upbringing, I became a medievalist. I'm currently working on my dissertation, which examines the role of silence in medieval English devotion and literature. When I'm not writing, I enjoy studying the occult and the paranormal, participating in endurance sports, and learning to play the harp.
