I earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Calcutta and Master's degree from the University of Jadavpur. Originally my areas of interest and specialization had been 20th Century British fiction and Feminist Theory. It amuses most people to know that I 'discovered' Postcolonial Studies after I came to the University of Iowa. My work involves understanding colonial/ postcolonial experience in both Anglophone and regional South Asian fiction through a gendered approach. I have written on the representations of gendered violence in the fiction of the Partition of India, crisis of masculinity in Tagore's short stories and the articulation of colonized female subjectivity in Tagore's The Home and the World. My recent interests include literature of the Indian diaspora. I have taught undergraduate courses in literature in colleges affiliated to the University of Calcutta; the experience has proved to be valuable in teaching Rhetoric courses at the University of Iowa.
