Respectful Communities Project

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity has joined with campus and community members to launch a year long “Respectful Communities Project” designed to increase the commitment to a prejudice-free community.  Stimulated by the Shoah Visual History Foundation’s Testimony to Tolerance Initiative and the (17) Iowa testimonies featured at the Des Moines Public Library, the year long project will appeal to adults, college age students and the community.

The University of Iowa/Iowa City coalition envisions a year where a series of intentional dialogues will be held on campus and in the community to discuss ways everyone can take responsibility to reduce bigotry, prejudice and intolerance.  A locally developed educational package and a curriculum from the Shoah Foundation will be made available via the University of Iowa Libraries for the campus and the community.  Facilitator training for lay persons seeking to use the materials in community conversations is available.

While a calendar of scheduled activities are available, organizers will be pleased to collaborate in presenting future programs.
