Photo of architectural detail on Old Capitol Museum. Sexual Harassment: Confidentiality Considerations

Sexual harassment complaints are confidential. This means that information about the complaint is provided only to those individuals within the University who need to know in order to investigate and/or resolve the complaint.

The University has a duty to respond to allegations of sexual harassment and therefore, you cannot be guaranteed absolute confidentiality once you disclose allegations to an academic or administrative officer, which includes any supervisor, human resources representative, academic advisor, or DEO. However, you can be assured that confidentiality is maintained to the extent possible consistent with the University’s need to respond appropriately to the situation.

Parties to a complaint are also expected to maintain confidentiality, and it is in their best interest to do so. Parties should not discuss the matter in the environment where the alleged behavior occurred (i.e., in the workplace, academic environment, or residence hall).
