University Theatres Gallery series to present One Man's Trash
The University Theatres Gallery series will present One Man's Trash by Iowa Playwrights Workshop student Jess Foster at 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 5–7, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, in Theatre B of the University of Iowa Theatre Building. (more)
Bijou to present British comedy, Japanese classic through Nov. 12
The Bijou Theater, the independent film house operated by University of Iowa students, will show Armando Iannucci’s In the Loop and Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon Friday–Thursday, Nov. 6–12. (more)
School of Music to host pair of free performances
Kantorei, the University of Iowa School of Music’s premiere choral ensemble, and the Composers Workshop, a collaborative project between the school’s composers and performers, will offer free concerts in Iowa City this weekend.
Kantorei will perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, at Congregational United Church of Christ, 30 North Clinton Street in downtown Iowa City. The ensemble, directed by Timothy Stalter, is comprised of 28 singers, most of whom are graduate students, and performs on campus four or five times a year. (more)
Hawkeyes to welcome Ma, Pa for Family Weekend
Moms and dads from across the country will be on campus this weekend courtesy of the annual Family Weekend celebration for Hawkeye parents, siblings, family members, and significant others.
Related events begin Friday, Nov. 6, with a night of square dancing and country music at 10 p.m. in the second-floor ballroom in the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). The festivities continue with a Game Day Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 7, and a football game between the Hawkeyes and the Wildcats of Northwestern University. A special family brunch will be offered on Sunday, Nov. 8, in the IMU Main Lounge. (more)
Hawkeyes to take on Northwestern at Kinnick
The University of Iowa football team will square off against the Northwestern University Wildcats at 11:02 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, Kinnick Stadium for Family Weekend.
Tickets are sold out. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Men's, women's basketball squads to host exhibition doubleheader
The University of Iowa men's and women's basketball teams will play exhibition games against Marian University and Washburn University, respectively, on Sunday, Nov. 8, in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. (more)

The University of Iowa Band Extravaganza, presented by the UI School of Music, will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. (more)
See free screening of documentary film Lioness
The University of Iowa Veterans Association, the UI Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, and the UI Women's Resource and Action Center will sponsor a free screening and discussion of the film Lioness: There for the Action, Missing from History at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union. Ehrlich to read for UI Nonfiction Writing Program Nov. 11
Gretel Ehrlich, a guest of the University of Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program, will read at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, in room 101 of Becker Communication Studies Building. The reading is free and open to the public. (more)
Volleyball team to face pair of Big Ten foes in Carver-Hawkeye
The University of Iowa volleyball team will play the first of two Big Ten Conference matches this week with a contest against the University of Wisconsin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. (more)
Writing University will record and archive Nov. 12 reading by David Plouffe
The University of Iowa Writing University web site will record and archive a reading by David Plouffe, the architect of Barack Obama's win in the Iowa caucuses, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City. (more)
Campus Activities Board to offer screenings of District 9

UI Afro-Cuban Drum and Dance Ensemble to perform
Nov. 12–14

Trumpeter Herb Alpert and vocalist Lani Hall—husband and wife with numerous classic recordings and Grammy Awards between them—will perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort Event Center as part of the 2009–10 Hancher season. (more)
University Theatres Mainstage season to present Reefer Madness: The Musical
Reefer Madness: The Musical, based on the over-the-top 1936 "educational" film that became a cult classic, will continue the University Theatres Mainstage season at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, in E.C. Mabie Theatre of the University of Iowa Theatre Building. (more)
Student group invites public to enjoy Diwali in Iowa Memorial Union

Women's basketball team to host annual Hawkeye Challenge
