Writers' Workshop Alumni to Read at Prairie Lights—Three University of Iowa Writers' Workshop alumni will hold free readings this week at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. (more)

Student Legal Services to Offer Information on Criminal Laws at Free Presentation—Greg Bal, supervising attorney for University of Iowa Student Legal Services, will offer a free presentation, "Don't Get Busted," at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Macbride Hall. (more)

Hancher to Present Performance by Global Drum Project—The University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium will present the Global Drum Project, featuring former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussein, Nigerian talking-drum master Sikiru Adepoju, and versatile Latin percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the West High School auditorium. Michael Cunningham to Give Free Reading—Pulitzer Prize–winning author Michael Cunningham, an alumnus of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, will present a free reading at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, in lecture room 1 of Van Allen Hall. (more)

Urban and Regional Planning Program to Hold Open House—The University of Iowa graduate program in urban and regional planning will host an open house from 2 to 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, starting in the Senate Chamber of Old Capitol on the UI Pentacrest. (more)

Maia Quartet to Perform Free Concert in Old Capitol—The Maia String Quartet, just entering its 10th-anniversary season as the University of Iowa quartet in residence, will present music from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries in a free concert at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, in the Senate Chamber of the Old Capitol on the UI Pentacrest. Swimming, Diving Teams to Welcome Wisconsin to Field House Pool—The University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host a competition against Big Ten Conference rivals from the University of Wisconsin at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17, in the Field House pool. (more)

Saturday Scholars Series to Explore Photography and Place—The Saturday Scholars series, presented by the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, continues Saturday, Oct. 18, with "Photography and Place: New York Narratives," presented by Margaret Stratton, School of Art and Art History. Hawkeyes to Host Wisconsin Badgers at Kinnick Stadium—After two consecutive contests on the road, the University of Iowa football team will return to more familiar surroundings as it hosts a game against the University of Wisconsin at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, in Kinnick Stadium on the UI campus. IWP Writer-in-Residence's Film to Be Featured at Free Screening—Leonardo Henriquez, Venezuelan writer-in-residence in the University of Iowa International Writing Program, will present his Academy Award–nominated film, Sangrador, at 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, in room 101 of Becker Communication Studies Building. Philharmonia, Student Conductors to Perform at West High—The University of Iowa Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra will present a free concert at 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, in the auditorium of Iowa City West High School. (more)
