fyi takes the bronze

The editors of fyi take a deep but humble bow in accepting the bronze medal for periodical staff writing from the 2001 Circle of Excellence awards program sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Our competition? The gold and silver winners for the United States and Canada west of the Great Lakes (University of Missouri-Columbia’s Mizzou and University of Washington’s Columns, respectively) are both quarterly alumni magazines, published in full color, advertising supported, with circulations in excess of 150,000.

Some excerpts from the judges’ report: “What could be a dumping ground for policy information, rehashed press releases, and calendar listings instead becomes a great read, thanks to the staff of fyi . . . . A superb example of editing and story development. . . . The topics, approaches, and some creative touches in the writing convinced me that faculty and staff look forward to fyi.”

We would like to thank our agent, our plastic surgeon, and all the little people without whom none of this would have been possible. No, wait—we’re the little people without whom none of this would have been possible.
