Kenneth Cmiel, professor of history, named to the editorial board of a new journal, Modern Intellectual History.

Mary J. Gilchrist, director of the University Hygienic Laboratory, recipient of the Henry Albert Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to public health in Iowa from the Iowa Public Health Conference.

Health Science Relations, winner of a Crystal Award of Excellence for the 2003 Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine annual report and an Award of Distinction for Medicine magazine in the Communicator Awards competition.

Charles M. Helms, professor of internal medicine, elected president-elect of the Iowa Medical Society.
