Emergency Leave gets new name
Emergency Leave has been renamed Family Caregiving
Leave.
The new title better reflects the purpose of the
program, which is to make available to faculty and
staff the ability to use sick leave to care for an
ill or injured family member.
A maximum of five days
of sick leave—40 hours
of sick leave based on full-time employment, prorated
for part-time—per calendar year may be used
for the care of and necessary attention to ill or
injured members of an employee’s immediate
family. Departments may request appropriate verification
of the status of the ill or injured person.
Over the next few months, the term Emergency Leave
will be emoved from forms and revised to Family
Caregiving Leave.

Help ease benefits enrollment
In order to help make benefits enrollment more accurate
this fall, UI employees are being asked to verify
their beneficiary information by Sept. 15.
To do this, visit the self-service web site at https://hris.uiowa.edu/portal/,
and log on using your HawkID and password. Under “My
Information,” click on “Current Benefits.”
You can make corrections by e-mailing the correct
information to benefits@uiowa.edu or by sending the
beneficiary designation form (located on the “Current
Benefits” page) to Benefits, 120-40 USB.
If your designated beneficiary is a trust or will,
or if your designation is lengthy or unusual, the
system will only display “See Comments.” For
more information, contact the Benefits Office.
Health fair for UI employees
The annual Faculty and Staff Health Fair is set
for Nov. 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the main deck
of the Field House.
The health fair provides opportunities for faculty
and staff to learn about health and wellness, the
University’s health care plans, UI Family Care
providers, and a variety of other health-related
services on campus. There also will be free blood
pressure checks, health risk assessments, and other
health screenings available.
The health fair is sponsored by UI Wellness, Staff
Council, Recreational Services, and University of
Iowa Health Care.

Cain named interim provost
Professor Patricia A. Cain, Aliber Family Chair
in Law and associate dean for admissions in the College

1.
Jon Whitmore, UI provost and professor of theatre
arts since August 1996, has been named the sole finalist

“It’s essential that the academic mission
of the University be overseen and represented by
a faculty member with a distinguished record of accomplishment
in our core missions of teaching, research, and service,” UI
President David Skorton says. “As I sought
input from campus leaders on whom to entrust with
that responsibility, Professor Pat Cain was recommended
again and again.”
