Barbara Stay and Cara Connaghan
Barbara Stay, professor of biological sciences, chats with young Cara Connaghan about a caterpillar the girl found near Hancher Auditorium. The two were there Oct. 9 to celebrate a new garden west of the auditorium lobby that was dedicated to Cara’s great-grandmother Susan Hancher, wife of former UI president Virgil Hancher and longtime supporter of the University. The garden, constructed and maintained by Campus Shops employees, includes purple verbena, yellow lantana, petunias, heliotrope, vinca, and more. Photo by Tom Jorgensen.

Nominations sought for Hancher-Finkbine Medallions

The Finkbine Dinner Committee invites nominations of UI alumni to receive one of the prestigious Hancher-Finkbine Medallions at the 87th Anniversary Finkbine Dinner on April 27, 2004.

The deadline is Nov. 10. Nomination forms, a description of the criteria, and a complete list of previous recipients are available at www.uiowa.edu/~vpss (click on the 2004 Finkbine Award Nominations box) or by contacting the Finkbine Dinner Committee, 249 IMU. Benefits enrollment under way

The annual flex benefits online enrollment is open though 5 p.m., Nov. 21.

To enroll, go to the Human Resources web site at www.uiowa.edu/hr and click on "Self-Service." Then, log in, click on "Annual Benefits Enrollment," and make your selections.

For most faculty and P&S staff, there are changes to flexible spending credit amounts, insurance plan premiums, and some insurance plans. P&S staff and faculty who have not already done so should carefully review their benefit choices.

There is an enrollment book online that explains the changes in your benefits program and contains enrollment instructions. It is available under "Open Enrollment Information" on the Benefits web site, www.uiowa.edu/hr/benefits/index.html.

Online enrollment requires your Hawk ID and password. If you do not know your Hawk ID, you can find it at https://login.uiowa.edu/uip/hawkid-lookup.page. If you don’t have a password, you may request one by contacting Information Technology Services at (38)4-4357 or (38)4-0800. Those supported by Health Care Information Systems should call (33)5-6500.

Learn to manage your meds

Faculty and staff have an opportunity this month to meet with pharmacists and senior pharmacy students to discuss medications.

Personal appointments may be made between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Nov. 18, at the IMU and during the same hours Nov. 20 at Pomerantz Level II Ambulatory Care Pharmacy.

Participants will receive a free 20-minute education and screening, with the chance to ask questions and become more familiar with medication therapies.

To schedule an appointment, call UI Health Access at (38)4-8442. Bring all medications to the screening.
