UI Libraries to remember 9/11 tragedy

Share coffee, conversation, and a celebration of freedom, 8:30-9:30am, Sept. 11, on the North Plaza of the Main Library. Library staff will be distributing copies of the Bill of Rights, remembering those who died with a moment of silence at 8:46am and encouraging participants to discuss what it means to be an American. An electronic diary will be available for participants to record their memories. Refreshments will be served.

The event is part of The September Project (www.theseptemberproject.org), which coordinates remembrance events at libraries across the nation. The electronic diary and photographic images of the event will become part of The September Project’s photographic collage.

Seminars focus on historical research

UI Libraries will be offering free seminars this semester on conducting historical research. Those with an interest in primary historical sources may be particularly interested.

The first one, “Tools for Accessing Primary Historical Sources,” 2:30-4:30pm, Sept. 10, in the Main Library’s Information Arcade, will focus on tools for identifying and locating distant or local primary sources of particular interest to the researcher, mostly in paper or microformat.

While there is no charge, participants must register in advance. Registration forms are available on the web site, or contact Marsha Forys at (33)5-5301 or marsha-forys@uiowa.edu.
