Offices and Awards
Noel Estrada-Hernández, an assistant professor in the Graduate Programs in Rehabilitation, and Dennis Harper, professor and director of the R.E.A.C.H. program, both in the College of Education were honored by the American Psychological Association for writing one of the best 200 articles published in 2007.
Murray Madsen, program consultant for the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health in the College of Public Health, was reelected president and board chair for Farmers Mutual Electric Company, Geneseo, Ill.
Teresa Morgan, clinical associate professor in the College of Dentistry, was appointed to the examination committee of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Thanos Papanicolaou, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering, has been awarded the 2008 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Norbert Pienta, associate professor of chemistry in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been named editor of the Journal of Chemical Education.
Val Sheffield, Martin and Ruth Carver Chair in Genetics and professor of pediatrics in the Carver College of Medicine, has been renewed through August 2013 as an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Mark Sidel, professor in the College of Law, will receive the Civil Liberties Prize from the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law and the Catholic Organization for Relief and Development.
The Department of Mathematics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences received the 2008 Award for an Exemplary Program or Achievement in a Mathematics Department from the American Mathematical Society.
