Feel like a million

In celebration of National Employee Health and Fitness Day, UI Wellness is participating in Feel Like a Million, a free, stress-management incentive program May 1-28. All faculty and staff are welcome to join.

Feel Like a Million is a fun, motivational program during which participants plan and record daily progress. Weekly drawings for massages and other prizes also will take place during the contest.

Faculty & staff golf league

Entry forms are now being accepted for the 2001 Faculty/Staff Golf League at the Division of Recreational Services. The league—a nine-hole, doubles league with groupings by ability—is open to all faculty and staff. Play begins May 15 and concludes July 26.

Cost is $30 per team plus greens fees of $16 per round. The registration deadline is 4pm, May 1. Entry forms and more information are available at E216 FH or recserv.uiowa.edu/golf.



Submissions sought for WOW calendar

Organizations or departments wishing to have their events listed in the WOW Weeks of Welcome calendar for the beginning of the 2001-02 academic year need to turn in submissions by May 18 to Kim Spurlin, 145 IMU.

The calendar will inform students about events and programs taking place in the first two weeks of school. Submissions should include the event’s name; a description (20 words maximum); time, date, and place; sponsoring organization; and contact information including a person, phone, and address. Only one submission from each organization will be accepted.

Staff award nominations reminder

Staff Council is seeking nominations for the University and Board of Regents Excellence awards. Up to six University and six Regents awards will be granted. Deadline for receipt of nominations is May 1. For more information, visit the Staff Council web site at www.uiowa.edu/~stafcnsl.



Free diabetes conference

People with diabetes and their families who want to learn more about the latest in diabetes research and treatment are invited to attend a free, half-day conference April 28 at the Clarion/Hampton Inn, 1200 1st Ave., Coralville.

The conference is organized by Robert Spanheimer, an associate professor of internal medicine, who will address the current diabetes epidemic. The program will begin at 7am with registration and time to visit displays. The welcome and introduction will begin at 7:50am. The entire program will wrap up by noon.

Health group to talk tobacco

The next meeting of the Interdisciplinary Health Group will address "Tobacco health and politics: National and international approaches to tobacco and alcohol control," noon-1:15pm, April 24, Public Policy Center Seminar Room (200 SQ).

Presenters include Christopher Squier, associate provost for health sciences; Peter Nathan, professor of psychology; and John Lowe, professor of community and behavioral health. Sandwiches and refreshments will be served.



Summer book reserve lists

The deadline for the submission of summer semester reserve lists is April 27. Fall reserve lists will be due July 20. Faculty who have not received forms may obtain them from their departmental librarian or from Reserve Services in the Main Library.
