From the SDS homepage: "The Office of Student Disability Services (SDS) provides support services and coordinates academic accommodations for students with disabilities so they have an opportunity to participate equally in all aspects of University life. SDS provides direct services such as priority registration, alternative testing arrangements, reader services, personal and academic counseling, personal orientation to the campus, and support groups for various disability populations. SDS also coordinates many indirect services, such as tutoring and adapted transportation, with other University offices and departments, and works with faculty in providing appropriate course accommodations. The office offers other individualized services."

From the Academic Advising homepage: "For students entering The University of Iowa, the transition from high school or community college to the University is a tremendous adjustment. The challenge for students in a dual one -- how to manage academic programs and responsibilities and how to cope with independent living -- and it is usually accompanied by a great deal of pressure to succeed. To help students make the transition, the Academic Advising Center teaches students how to use the resources and services of the University and how to become informed consumers of educational opportunities that lead to fulfilling majors and productive lives beyond the University."
