The Iowa One® Card

The Iowa One® Card is the official identification card of The University of Iowa.
PHOTO
Your digitized photo image is printed here on the card. The photo image is stored in a high security confidential database and is not accessible to the university community or external organizations or agencies.
A picture is mandatory in order to receive an Iowa One® Card. Photos must be an unobstructed, front view of the full face that is a representation of the true appearance of the card holder. No facial or hand gestures or foreign objects are to be included in the photo. Hats, sunglasses, bandannas, and any other clothing that might obstruct the view of the face may not be worn. All headwear must be removed, unless worn for valid religious, cultural, or medical reasons. No picture retakes are allowed unless the picture is unusable due to closed eyes or other unforeseen problems.
NAME
Your name will appear on your card as it does in current University of Iowa records. If there are any changes or discrepancies in your name and you have already been issued an Iowa One® Card , you will need to obtain a replacement. Students requiring a name change should go to the Registrar's Service Center, (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) 17 Calvin Hall, with the appropriate documentation. Faculty/Staff who are not current or former students should logon to Employee Self Service, to update their name. There is no charge for any new card issued due to a name change.
NOTE: Please allow 1-2 business days for the name change to reach the Iowa One® Card system.
CLASSIFICATION
Your primary university classification will appear here on the ID card. Classifications include Student, Faculty/Staff, and Affiliate.

MAGNETIC STRIPE
The back of your Iowa One® Card has two magnetic stripes. The gold magnetic strip is used exclusively for UI campus transactions. The black magnetic strip is used exclusively for ATM and PIN-based debit transactions and will work only if you have an Iowa One™ Checking account with the U of I Community Credit Union.
When swiped, the information on the gold magnetic stripe links to your record on the Iowa One® Card System; the ID Card System verifies your ability to charge as well as your academic or employment standing when status is required (for example, to receive a student or faculty/staff discount).
Holes should not be punched in either magnetic stripe. Close proximity to magnetic fields (TV,s, stereos, microwaves, computers) may decode the magnetic stripe on the back of the card). Do not affix any item to the magnetic stripes. To help protect the magnetic stripes from scratches and wear, Cards should be carried in a protective holder or wallet.
