IDIS/Web Tutorial - Using the Thesaurus
The medical literature is inconsistent in the words and terms used to refer to the same concept. For example, one author may refer to a "cerebrovascular accident," while another may refer to the same condition as "acute stroke." For consistency, a controlled vocabulary is used when indexing each journal article. For more focused searching and more exact search results, you can use the Thesaurus to determine the valid IDIS controlled-vocabulary term for a drug, disease or condition. To search the Thesaurus, click the Thesaurus link located on the left side of the Search screen (or any screen within IDIS/Web), and the Thesaurus field is displayed . See Thesaurus for more information. In this example, you will search for the valid disease term for hypertension. Click Thesaurus to continue. |
