Health Science Track

The Interdepartmental Studies: Health Science Track (BA, undergraduate degree) is a Pre-approved Plan of Study that combines a generalized health background, with a variety of well-matched Emphasis Area choices: Multidisciplinary Science, Entrepreneurial, Aging, Sexuality Studies, Global Health, or Health Coach. Students also have the option of proposing a Self-defined Emphasis Area to the Faculty Advisory Committee.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 22 semester hours of Foundation Coursework, and 15 semester hours in one Emphasis Area.

Important Notes For All Health Science Track Students:

Students must have at least sophomore standing (30 sh) to declare this major.
Maximum 6 sh overlap if applying courses to a double major.
No major coursework can be pass/no pass grading options, or courses used for a minor.
Students may not pursue more than one track within the Interdepartmental Studies Program.
A student is required to complete a minimum of 15 semester hours of major coursework at the University of Iowa.
UI cumulative GPA, total cumulative GPA, major GPA, and UI major GPA must all be at least 2.00 (or above).
A student earning an Interdepartmental Studies Major must earn a minimum of 30 semester hours of credit from courses offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, thus satisfying the CLAS residence requirement. More information on the CLAS Residence Requirement.
