Devastation hits
close to home
By Laura Podolak
On Sept. 11 at 8:46 a.m. EST, terrorism punctured a hole into
the rising balloon of freedom and safety the United States
relies on and believes in so profoundly. The gaping hole released
the air of relished security and sent society into a frantic
downward spiral that Americans are still clawing to escape
from. In the financial district of Lower Manhattan, a 16-acre
flesh wound best describes the feelings American citizens
are experiencing after that fateful day: exposed, tattered,
chaotic.
