Athletic Training Course Requirements

General Course Requirements and Semester Hours

Select two courses outside the area of specialization:

27:141 Exercise Physiology (3 s.h.) and
27:142 Physiology of Exercise Physiology Laboratory (1 s.h)
         (Prerequisite: 27:130 Human Physiology or equivalent)
27:153 Embryology and Connective Tissue Anatomy (2 s.h.)
27:155 Skeletal Muscle Biology (3 s.h.)
27:160 Motor Control I: Neurophysiological Basis (3 s.h.)
27:197 Biomechanics of Human Motion (4 s.h.)
27:253 Advanced Human Anatomy (6 s.h.)

Core Course Requirements

22S:102  Introduction to Statistical Methods (3 s.h.)
or
171:161 Introduction to Biostatistics (3 s.h.)
27:404 Thesis M.S. (4 max.)

In addition to the academic requirements held for all M.S. degree with thesis candidates, athletic training candidates who are offered graduate assistantship appointments with the University Athletic Training Services or with the Iowa City Community School District must obtain NATABOC certification status by August before the beginning of the first fall semester.  In the event NATABOC certification is not obtained, the graduate appointment will be canceled.
