Individuals can pursue a Master of Science degree in
the following specializations: anatomy, athletic training, biomechanics,
exercise & integrative physiology and motor control. A Master
of science degree program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours.
Advising
Graduate students
pursuing the M.S. degree (with or without thesis) are advised by
a program advisor. Such students should arrange meetings with their
program advisor for the purpose of filing a Preliminary Plan of
Study during the first academic session in which they are enrolled.
The student, in consultation with the program advisor,
lists on the preliminary plan of study (1) undergraduate prerequisites
in which the student is deficient and (2) the graduate courses that
the student must complete for the M.S. degree. The latter courses
should include the courses necessary for the student to prepare
for the final examination. The program advisor signs the approved
preliminary plan of study, provides one copy to the student and
places another copy in the students file in the department
office.
Academic Standing
A graduate student on regular admission status is placed
on academic probation by the Graduate College if after completing
eight semester hours of graduate work at the University the students
cumulative grade-point average on such graduate work is less than
3.0. If, after completing eight more hours of graduate work at this
University, the students cumulative grade-point average on
graduate work completed here remains below 3.0, the student is denied
permission to reregister; otherwise, the student is restored to
good academic standing. Students on academic probation are not eligible
to take the M.S. final examination. Academic credit that carries
a grade below C- or S is not accepted toward
the M.S. degree.
Residence Requirements
At least 24 semester hours of graduate work must
be completed in residence at this University for the M.S. degree,
of which at least eight semester hours of on-campus credit is required.
Credit for graduate courses taken at other institutions and transferred
to this University and all Guided Independent Study credit does not
count as residence credit. After being admitted to the Graduate
College, the student may complete graduate work off campus for residence
credit (with the exception of the eight semester hours of on-campus
credit mentioned above) under the circumstances listed under Extramural
Registration of the Graduate College Manual,
page 6.
