Recording Studio

One of the leading university-based digital recording operations in the country, The University of Iowa Recording Studio serves the recording needs of faculty and students, from professional recordings to helping students build their dossiers of recordings. The studio's advanced equipment and years of recording experience have built the means and expertise to preserve performances with exquisite precision.

The recording control room is connected to ten locations throughout the music building, plus Clapp Recital Hall and Hancher Auditorium. CDs are primarily recorded in Clapp because of the excellent acoustics and easy access. The studio also has an archive of Hancher and Clapp concerts, and records almost every faculty recital. A wealth of compact discs have been recorded, edited, produced, or mastered at UI's recording studio on labels including Music & Arts, Albany, Bridge, Vienna Modern Masters, and DIVOX.

Courses in basic audio recording and digital audio editing and mixing also are offered by staff in the University of Iowa Recording Studios. The latest equipment is taught in these courses, including Pro Tools digital recording, editing, processing, mixing and mastering software for Power Macintosh computers.
