Scott ConklinScott Conklin has performed as a violin soloist with numerous orchestras including the Louisville, Nashville, and Berlin Symphony Orchestras. Conklin was a first place winner of the Music Teachers National Association Competition, and he was a featured artist at the 2004 MTNA National Conference. Conklin regularly performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, and he is currently Assistant Professor of Violin at The University of Iowa School of Music. He also teaches pre-college violin at The Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, IA. Conklin has appeared on a wide variety of concert series and college campuses throughout the country. More recent performances include City College of New York, Oklahoma State University, The University of Michigan, University of Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music, Texas Tech University, Eastern Illinois University, The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Evansville, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, Miami University, The University of Texas at Arlington, and an appearance on the Brave New Works Concert Series honoring Pulitzer Prize winning composer Leslie Bassett in Ann Arbor, MI. Conklin also presented a recital on the opening night of the 2004 MTNA National Conference in Kansas City, MO following author/musician Barry Green’s presentation on “Mastery of Music.” Conklin holds the honorary distinction of being a “Kentucky Colonel,” a title given to him by Governor Wallace Wilkinson of Kentucky. Composer Joel Puckett recently wrote Colloquial Threads for Violin and Piano, a work dedicated and written for Conklin and pianist Robert Auler. The piece recently won a BMI Composition Award, and both Conklin and Auler are currently performing the work in concert. In summer months, Conklin has served and/or continues to serve on faculty at Sound Encounters Music Festival (Ottawa, KS), American Suzuki Institute (Stevens Point, WI), Interlochen Arts Camp All-State Division, The International Music Festival (Cleveland, OH), DFW WOW (Dallas, TX), Ottawa Suzuki Institute Mid-Southwest and Young Artist Camp, and The University of Texas at Arlington Summer Strings Camp. Conklin is a former faculty member of The University of Texas at Arlington and he also taught as a substitute professor for violinist Brian Lewis at The University of Texas at Austin. Conklin earned Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees from The University of Michigan School of Music as a student of Paul Kantor. He also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with David Updegraff.
