Music Minors

Students may minor in music by completing 15 semester hours in the School of Music, 12 of which must be in advanced courses. Advanced courses include:

  1. Any 025: course which has a number of 100 or higher.
  2. Courses designed for the core music major curriculum with a course number lower than 100, including:
    • Lower Level Applied Instruction (i.e. 025:040, Lower Level Voice). Students must audition for the major professor for admission to Lower Level Applied Instruction.
    • Music Theory Sequence (one course required for minor). 025: 002, 003, 004, 005

Courses which are NOT considered advanced (but may be used to complete 3 of the 15 s.h. needed for the minor) include:

025:001 Fundamentals of Music
025:013 Concepts and Contexts of Western Music
025:014 Great Musicians
025:059 Performance Instruction for Non-Majors
025:064 Recital Attendance for Non-Majors
025:082, 084 Group Piano for Non-Majors I, II

Students complete the music minor by satisfying the 15 hour requirement, and completing coursework in three areas:

  1. Music Theory
  2. Music History
  3. Performance-Related Courses. Courses which satisfy these areas are listed on the music minor course checklist.
