Admission. Music majors spend the first 2 years taking general education and basic music courses. During the sophomore year music students seeking licensure should make preparations for applying to the College of Education's Teacher Education Program (TEP). Students need to have earned 33 hours of college credit to be eligible for admission.
Information is available from the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services.
The deadline for applications to the secondary teacher education program is either October 15 or March 15. Admission of qualified applicants on these two dates will be approved if openings in classes become available. A limited number of applicants are accepted into the Music teacher education program, so meeting the minimum requirements listed below does not ensure admission. Other criteria relevant to teaching success are also considered.
