025:183:002 CHAMBER ORCHESTRA - PHILHARMONIA (0-1 s.h.)
The Philarmonia, designed for undergraduate students, features an expandable instrumentation that allows for a variety of repertoire from Classical to contemporary composers. The Philarmonia presents two or more concerts each semester and is conducted by graduate conducting majors in the studio of Dr. William LaRue Jones.
Auditions for membership are during the first week of
classes each semester (Orchestra winds and percussion are assigned by their
respective studios). String auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday, August 25 - 26 in the Fellowship Hall of the Congregational United Church of Christ (corner of Jefferson St and Clinton St) and in Room 104 of the Clinton Music Building 376. A sign-up sheet for string audition times can be found in 107 Lindquist Center, open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., or students may e-mail the orchestra office (music-orchestra@uiowa.edu) to arrange an audition time. Rehearsals are Tuesday
and Thursday, 2:00-2:50 p.m., temporarily located at the Iowa City West High School Auditorium.
Changes in registration should be made with the orchestra manager.
