Mission Statement:

New Dimensions In Learning is guided by a commitment to provide eligible undergraduates with direct personal and academic support that will enhance their progress and promote educational excellence in meeting their degree objectives.

What is New Dimensions In Learning?

New Dimensions In Learning (NDIL) is an integral part of the Office of Support Service Programs (SSP) at the University of Iowa and plays an essential role in fulfilling the SSP mission.

NDIL provides academic planning counseling, personal advising, workshops, study skill assistance, and tutorials–all designed to enhance students’ college experiences and improve their chances for degree completion.

New Dimensions was established in 1977 with a new grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Since then, NDIL has provided services to over 7,000 students, utilizing federal grants that fund about 87 percent of its operation. In the 2002-2003 program year, a total of $309,719 will be provided by the federal grant. About 13 percent of direct cost support comes from The University of Iowa and the Office of Support Service Programs.

New Dimensions is a "local" name for what is officially known nationally as a Student Support Services Project. NDIL is one of a family of programs which, in addition to Student Support Services, includes Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, Educational Opportunity Centers, and the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement program. Collectively, these federally funded programs are known as "TRIO."
