About the Program
The objective of the Presidential Biological Scholar Program is to recruit new investigators of outstanding promise in the basic biological and clinical sciences. Up to four young investigators will be named as Presidential Biological Scholars at the rank of assistant professor in the tenure-track. The scholar's primary responsibility will be research, complemented by departmental teaching and/or clinical responsibilities, as appropriate.
The award will provide protected time and support to allow recipients to launch their academic careers in a unique scientific and collaborative environment. Each scholar will receive a total award up to $500,000. It is expected that scholars will compete for extramural research funding. Funding for salary and appropriate research space will be provided by a departmental appointment in the Carver College of Medicine or in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at The University of Iowa.
