Advantage Iowa Award
Advantage Iowa Awards are awarded to first-year students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents whose enrollment will contribute to a diverse learning environment.
- Selection criteria include race/ethnic background; socioeconomic factors; whether the student is a first-generation college student (parents have not graduated from college); and participation in a federal TRIO program
- Awards are based on merit (test scores, GPA, class rank)
- Eligible students are considered automatically upon admission
- Value: Awards range from $2,000 to full tuition. Advantage Iowa Awards may increase to full tuition if student demonstrates need through the financial aid process.
Eligible students are automatically considered for this scholarship, but must apply for other financial aid by completing all of the required forms for need-based financial aid through the Financial Aid Office. Please note that to be considered for the full range of support, you must complete the FAFSA by March 1.
In addition to the monetary award, Advantage Iowa Scholars have available to them a range of services and opportunities beyond what is available to the average UI student.
Services for Advantage Iowa Scholars
The University of Iowa
has changed its scholarship program. As of fall 2007 no more Opportunity at
Iowa Scholarships will be awarded. If you were awarded an OI Scholarship on
or before Fall 2006, your benefits will not be changed. If you have any
questions please contact Nancy Humbles, (319) 335-2092. Requirements for academic progress in
effect when any OI Scholarship was awarded are still in effect.
Opportunity at Iowa monitors the academic progress of all Advantage Iowa and OI Scholars on a semester basis to help determine the annual status of scholarship renewal. If you are a recipient of the Advantage Iowa Award or Opportunity at Iowa Scholarship, and have questions about meeting scholarship requirements for annual renewal, contact Nancy Humbles, (319) 335-2092.
