Oversight
The Department of Public Safety is charged with oversight for fire safety at the University. Fire Safety Advisory Group
The Fire Safety Advisory Group is a forum to improve communication and shared decision-making in the area of campus fire safety. Additionally, the group provides periodic recommendations to the Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations regarding campus fire safety, to include policies, inspections, communications with the State Fire Marshal and local fire authorities, review of annual Fire and Environmental Safety Report, and prioritization and identification of capital projects. This group is chaired by the Assistant Vice President and Director of Public Safety and includes representatives from Risk Management Office, Health Protection Office, Residence Services, Facilities Management, and Public Safety.

Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers must be properly selected, mounted and routinely inspected. The Department of Facilities Management Electronic Shop purchases, inspects and maintains fire extinguishers. For evaluation as to need, proper type and location of fire extinguishers call 335-5125.

Extension Cords
The State Fire Marshal’s Office prohibits the use of extension cords and multiple plug adapters as permanent wiring. The only exception to this rule by the State Fire Marshal’s Office is electrical power strips for PERSONAL COMPUTERS AND THEIR COMPONENTS.
