A select group of faculty coordinated by the Director of Undergraduate Studies advises undergraduate majors. When students declare a major in Sociology, they may select an advisor or be assigned to one. If a student’s advisor is not available at a time when they need counsel, they may contact any advisor who is available. A graduate student assistant also counsels students on academic matters and prepares a bi-semester newsletter received by undergraduate students, departmental faculty and select college administrators. The department's administrative staff supplement the advisors by processing forms required for course changes. The department takes pride in both the quality and the accessibility of its advising functions.
