Dear Applicant:

I am pleased to learn of your interest in the MSW program at Iowa. This admission packet has been prepared to answer many of your questions about the School. This packet contains:

Please examine all of this material carefully. You are invited to attend informational meetings for prospective students at the following locations. Individual appointments are also possible for those who cannot attend:

Iowa City on the following Wednesdays in room 301 North Hall, at 4pm: Sept 5, 19, Oct 3, 17, 31 Nov 14, Dec 5, 19. You may drop in to attend a meeting in Iowa City without calling ahead, or you may email: susan-dirks@uiowa.edu, or call 319-335-1255 to let us know that you will be coming or to request directions.

Des Moines, on the following Tuesdays at the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center, 1200 Grand AVE in downtown Des Moines at 4:30pm: Aug 14, Sept 11, Oct 9, Nov 13, Dec 11 and Jan 15. To attend an informational meeting in Des Moines, contact the Des Moines Center Secretary, Madelyn Bowersox: madelyn-bowersox@uiowa.edu , 515-235-4660.

Sioux City, on the following Thursdays at Briar Cliff University, Stark Center Conference Room at 5:30 on Aug 23, Sept 13, Oct 18, Nov 15 and Dec 13 . Contact Julia Rembert for details: julia-rembert@uiowa.edu 712-279-5271.

If you have questions after attending a meeting, the Admissions Secretary will answer your general questions or help direct you for more specific answers: susan-dirks@uiowa.edu. If you are unable to attend a meeting, or have additional questions, you may request a meeting in Iowa City with the admissions coordinator, Kate Kemp, kate-kemp@uiowa.edu 319-335-1255, or for other locations, you may contact the center at the email address or phone number above for the location you wish to attend.

We urge you to send in your application materials promptly. The application deadline is February 1, 2008 for admission the following fall semester. Applicants will be informed of their admission status by April 15, 2008 at the latest.

Admission criteria and the application process are outlined in the attached School’s MSW Admission Policy and in the Graduate College reprint.

Eight items are required by the School and the University before an application is considered to be complete.

Where to send your application materials:

It is important for you to realize that your admission file is not complete until we have all of the items listed above. It is your responsibility to ensure that persons you ask for references respond in a timely manner and that all materials including reference letters reach the School before the deadline of February 1, 2008. To check the status of your admission files at the University of Iowa, you must contact both departments. You may email to check the status of your School of Social Work admission file: susan-dirks@uiowa.edu or you may call our direct line: 319-335-1255. You may check the status of your UI Graduate Admissions application online, or to reach either department, you may call our nationwide toll-free line: 800-553-4692(IOWA) – and ask for the School of Social Work or the Graduate Admissions office.

If your situation changes in any way that might affect your intention or desire to become a student or if you change your address, phone number or email address, please notify the School immediately. It is also important that you send a registration report for classes in which you will be currently enrolled on Feb 1st, and transcripts with grades for course work that is completed after the initiation of your application.
