Mirrors of Privilege

An Intensive Mini-Conference
with Dr. Shakti Butler

WRAC created Race, Privlege and Cultural Competence in 2006 as a response to the race and class inequities made clear in the light of Hurricane Katrina. It is designed to encourage both critical reflection and action, and is open to everyone who wants to do the work to make social change possible.

Presenter: Dr. Shakti Butler

Dr. Butler's work as a creative and visionary bridge-builder has challenged and inspired learning for over 21 years. She is the producer and director of the ground-breaking documentaries The Way Home and Light in the Shadows. Her most recent video is Mirrors of Privilege: Making Whiteness Visible.

Dr. Butler designed and launched Heart to Heart Conversations, a national program of public dialogue designed to help people to learn together and share deep feelings about race and culture. This program, which hasgained recognition and been reviewed on both local and national television, will for the basis for the conference.
