Writing Invitation #1: Where Does Creativity Come From? Where does creativity come from? I think it was developed in a laboratory by some "mad" scientist who was fed up with doing regular experiments. To cure his frustration, he devised a potion that would give him the ability to carry out his experiments without having to exert his own mental efforts. Because the scientist had shut off his mind, he forgot to bottle up his new potion, and the night custodian tossed it down the drain, where it seeped into the water supply. Eventually the potion expanded and filled all of the world--except Hollywood, California--and that is where creativity came from. There. That story is completely made up; it's creative writing. Where do you think creativity comes from? Has anybody ever said to you, "Hey, that's pretty creative!" What were they talking about? Think about these questions as you write a response to this invitation.
