Tips for selecting an apartment
Area rental accommodations range widely in terms in age, size, and amenities.
- When to look: Area landlords typically require a one-year lease beginning on July 1 or
August 1, but they begin advertising to lease these apartments as early as January. Month-to-month rentals and rentals without leases are uncommon.
- What you can expect to pay: Rents in Iowa City range from about $500 to more than $1,000 a month, depending on the unit's size, location,
and amenities.
- Where to live: Most listings in Iowa City and Coralville will be on city bus routes with easy connections to campus. Most areas of Iowa City and Coralville also can be easily navigated on foot or by bicycle. If you will have a vehicle, you may also consider apartments in North Liberty, Hills, Solon, West Branch, and West Liberty. Units in those cities may be less expensive but are a 15- to 30-minute drive to campus.
