Course Registration
New international students in F-1 or J-1 status must attend the ISSS Orientation program before registering for classes.

Review course listings
Prospective and admitted students can go to our web-based student service center, called ISIS (Iowa Student Information Services) to review our Schedule of Courses.

Schedule of Courses on ISIS

Schedule an appointment with your advisor
Before you register for classes, you will need to meet with your academic advisor to plan your course schedule. Contact your major department if you have not already been notified of your advisor's name. Graduate nondegree students are advised by Caren Cox, Associate Director of Academic Affairs, 205 Gilmore Hall, 319-335-2135.

During the meeting, your advisor will give you a four-digit registration number authorizing you to register. Admission to some courses will require instructor approval, so be sure to obtain any necessary documentation in that regard before trying to register.

When to register
New international students in F-1 or J-1 status must attend the orientation provided by the International Student & Scholar Services before registering for classes. Detailed information on the registration process is presented during the ISSS orientation program.

Obtain your student ID
Any time after registering for classes, go to Room 3 Jessup Hall to obtain an official student ID card (the Iowa One Card). You will need to present a photo identification (driver’s license, passport, etc.) for verification. The card will provide access to campus facilities and services throughout your career at Iowa, and may be used to charge expenses to your U-bill at various University locations. Review the web site for more details.
