The MA and the MFA in Art are awarded by the Graduate College. The MA is awarded with or without a thesis.

Applicants must meet the Admission Requirements of the Graduate College and the department offering the degree program (review the department's web site or the General Catalog for departmental requirements).

Application procedures
For these degree programs, you will need to send some application materials to your academic department and some to the Office of Admissions, which handles Graduate College applications.

Materials to send to Admissions:

• One set of official academic records/transcripts. Send a second set directly to your department.
• Official GRE General Test scores from Educational Testing Service (the University's institutional code is 6681). GRE scores will no longer be required for students seeking admission for Fall 2007 and beyond.
• International students must send their official TOEFL scores from Educational Testing Service (the University's institutional code is 6681).
• International students also must send a Financial Statement.

Materials required by the department:

• A second set of your official academic records/transcripts.
• Three (3) Letters of Recommendation.* An online form is available.
• A one- to two-page statement of purpose.
• A portfolio (See Portfolio Specifications in the General Catalog's admissions information for graduate degree programs in art.)
• A self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of portfolio.
• An Application for Graduate Awards.*
• Scholarship/Fellowship Information.
• Scholarship/Fellowship Application.
• Len Everett Scholarship* information.

If you Apply Online, the $60 application fee ($85 for international students) is payable by MasterCard or Visa. If you cannot pay by credit card, you may Download and Print an Application* and pay the fee by check or money order in U.S. currency made payable to "The University of Iowa."
