Biomedical Engineering (MS or PhD)
The MS and the PhD in Biomedical Engineering are awarded by the Graduate College. Instruction is offered through the College of Engineering. The MS is offered with or without a thesis.

Applicants must meet the Admission Requirements of the Graduate College and the department offering the degree program (review the Department's Web Site or the General Catalog for departmental requirements).

Application procedures
For these degree programs, you will need to send some application materials to your academic department and some to the Office of Admissions, which handles Graduate College applications.

International students must also submit an Online Pre-Application Form. (Click here to complete the form electronically and submit it via e-mail to the Biomedical Engineering Department. Do not submit a University application until after this pre-application is approved.)

Materials to send to the department:

• Your official academic records/transcripts (a photocopy is acceptable)
• An Application for Graduate Awards*
• Three (3) Letters of Recommendation*
• A personal résumé
• A statement of purpose
• A copy of your GRE General Test scores from the Educational Testing Service (the University's institutional code is 6681)
• International students must send a copy of their TOEFL scores from the Educational Testing Service (the University's institutional code is 6681).

Materials to send to Admissions:

If you Apply Online, the $60 application fee ($85 for international students; $100 for international students applying for Summer Session 2010 and beyond) is payable by MasterCard or Visa. If you cannot pay by credit card, you may Download and Print an Application* and pay the fee by check or money order in U.S. currency made payable to "The University of Iowa."
