Communication Studies (MA or PhD)
The
MA and the PhD in Communication
Studies are
awarded by the Graduate College. Instruction is offered in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. All applicants apply to the PhD program, as there is no terminal MA program. Students may earn their MA along the way, provided they have committee approval and have completed the required number of semester hours of course work. The MA is available with or without a thesis.

Application procedures
For these degree programs, you will need to send some application materials to your academic department and some to the Office of Admissions, which handles Graduate College applications.

- A second set of your official academic records/transcripts (current and former UI students do not need to provide UI transcripts)
- Your official GRE General Test scores from the Educational Testing Service (the University's institutional code is 6681)
- International students may also be required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to comply with the University's English Language Requirements.
- Once recommended for admission, international students must send a Financial Statement.
