Applicants must meet the Admission Requirements of the Graduate College and the department offering the degree program (review the department's web site or the General Catalog for departmental requirements).

Application deadlines
- Students are admitted for the fall, spring, or summer semester.
- Applications are reviewed as they are received by the program faculty for admission during the following semester.
- Priority will be given to students applying by January 1 for fall admission.
- Applicants are encouraged to check with the UI Office of Student Financial Aid for deadlines regarding financial aid.
Application procedures
For this degree program, you will need to send some application materials to your academic department and some to the Office of Admissions, which handles Graduate College applications.

(3) Letters
of Recommendation*
- A
statement of purpose, including your personal career objectives
and evidence of counseling-related experience
- A writing sample
Materials to send to Admissions:
- A second set of your official academic records/transcripts
- Your official GRE General Test scores from the Educational Testing Service (the University's institutional code is 6681)
- International students must send their official TOEFL scores from Educational Testing Service (the University's institutional code is 6681).
- Once recommended for admission, international students must send a Financial Statement.
