English Language Requirements (JD Candidates)
Scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are required from College of Law JD applicants whose first language is not English, except for those who:

  • have completed a bachelor’s degree at an accredited university in the U.S.;
  • have an equivalent degree from an accredited university in Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom; or
  • submit acceptable alternative evidence of a high degree of proficiency in English.

Otherwise, a minimum score of 260 (computer-based test, CBT); 105 (Internet-based test, iBT); or 620 (paper-based test, PBT) is required for admission.

Scores must be reported to the University directly from the testing agency. The University's TOEFL school code is 6681.

For more information, visit www.ets.org/toefl.

Alternative to the TOEFL
An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) total score of 8.0, with no subscore less than 7.0, may be used to satisfy the English-language requirement. All IELTS test takers will be required to take the on-campus English Proficiency Evaluation.
